Happy Halloween week!
I am so glad we completed our math units prior to this week!
This week we will begin our third unit in math on all levels. Students will be given new math Packets Tuesday. Please remember that they should be working on their math skills in packets or on Khan academy nightly for about 30 min. I strive to individualize math as much as possible for all students. For that reason, every child is moving at their own pace and completing work based on their ability and learning needs. Homework is used as a time for practice. Every child should be bringing home their packets nightly so that you know what they need to study and master prior to the unit test. Please contact me if you have any questions.
We will be continuing our "New Nation" unit this week. We will be specifically looking at our nations three branches of government and how their "checks and balances" help protect our country. On Friday we will have a quiz covering these concepts as well as last week's lessons (weaknesses of the articles of confederation, continental congress, constitution, great compromise, 3/5 compromise, and the bill of rights.)
Thank you for all of your support at home,
We are continuing to collect socks for socktober! Please send in new socks.
10/24 Math quiz Unit 2- all levels
10/26 Math Test Unit 2- all levels
* students should be practicing their math skills nightly for 20-30 min in their math packets. They may work at their own pace, they also have Khan academy accounts that have assigned work they could be doing.
We are now in the full swing of the school year. The students are familiar with their routine and the expectations of their teachers. The first quarter of the year is a period of adjustment for students, parents and teachers.
In order to allow for a learning curve, I have allowed students the opportunity to retake many classwork assignments (especially electronic ones) as many times as they needed to be successful. This will continue this quarter with one stipulation. Any assignment they need to "retry" will be scored after their second attempt in school. This will allow me to see if the low score was due to a misconception in material or not attending to detail when completing assignment. In this way, I can address the issue and remediate the deficit.
Thank you for all of your support at home,
Social studies: We began our "New Nation" unit. The standards for this unit are listed below. I have posted several videos and a nearpod so far for the students to use for learning, reinforcing and studying the material. In addition, they will be given paper notes that will be in their binder this week. Because of the heavy math week we have coming up- I will hold off on a quiz for this unit until next week. Next week we will be taking a quiz and a test on this unit.
SS4H2 Analyze the challenges faced by the framers of the Constitution.
Civics and Government
SS4CG1 Describe the meaning of:
SS4CG2 Explain the importance of freedoms guaranteed by the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
SS4CG3 Describe the structure of government and the Bill of Rights.
This week is the last week of the first quarter. Your Home Access Gradebook may not be updating, or may be updating slowly. This is because we are importing grades and finalizing report card codes.
4th grade math students will have one additional quiz added to gradebooks that they will take on Thursday. This will be on multiplication. They will then be given the last section of this unit which will be on division strategies.
5th grade math students will have a test on Thursday (TAG students will not be impacted as the test is first thing in the morning while they are with me) This will mark the end of the first full unit of fifth grade. The two subsequent units are fairly quick and straightforward. Unit 2 is adding and subtracting decimals and unit three is multiplying and dividing decimals. This is then followed by another large unit of fractions.
Science- a summative that covers the two performance standards will be given on Friday. This is not a stressful event and the students are very well prepared. It consists of a water cycle diagram that needs to be labeled (precipitation, runoff, evaporation, and condensation) the second portion is a weather map that students need to interpret. They will be asked questions about high and low pressure areas (H and L on a map), Temperature colors on a map (red= hot on a gradient to blue=cold) and cold and warm front and what they bring to an area. We are practicing these skills now. Students will have some practice and nearpod lessons in their google classrooms. These are great ways to prepare.
Conferences: I have not met with so many of you. Please sign up for a conference or contact me to set up another time.
Here is the link again.
Last full week of September! Time seems to really be flying.
This week we will have our fourth grade field trip on Tuesday. Here are some details:
-We will have an early lunch on this day (around 10:15.) Please pack a snack for your child they can eat when we return back to school (I will probably just pack mine a second lunch).
-We will be leaving the school promptly at 10:45 and should arrive back around 1:15.
Please remember to sign up for conferences. Please keep in mind that there are 29 students in our class, if we have already had a conference and/or unless there are additional issues, please allow those spaces to be filled by parents who have not had the chance to conference. I wish I could clone myself:-)
I appreciate all the effort parents are making to have their child keep up with assignments. Google classroom is a work in progress for many of my students. As they become more proficient, you will see less (incomplete or "late" assignments). The same goes for me, I have learned that I can assign and mot have a "grade" or due date. Unless I contact you about late assignments, your child is most likely keeping up.
Binders- I have pulled and filed away the first math unit we have completed and the first social Studies unit we have completed. Remember, in an effort to keep binders clean and neat, I will collect completed units and file them in my closet. In March, I will return all units to you. This will be a great way to review for cumulative assessments as well as a good organizational model that will help them in the future.
Devices- Please consider allowing students to bring their devices to school. No Phones! Devices must be able to be connected to school wifi that is highly filtered and trackable. If students have a device (not a phone) that they can bring to school, please have them bring it daily.
Students have all log ins programmed into device
Students become accustomed to one way of filling in work pages: cuts down on device problems
Parents have the ability to see what their children are doing every day.
Conferences: The following link will take you to a conference sign up.
The conference link above has all teacher's availability. Please sign up in an empty slot and be patient:-) When trying to access it myself, it took several minutes for the whole document to appear. On the bottom of the page there are tabs. October 5th is a day devoted to conferences. This would be the BEST day to schedule. If that is not possible, there are many other dates to choose from.
This week we will be delving further into our new math units as well as beginning our 1st science unit on water.
I believe we have now worked out all "kinks" with google classroom. Please let me know if you have any questions going forward with this.
Please check student grades regularly and contact me with any concerns or questions.
Thank you for all of the amazing birthday cards, gifts, chocolate, and Starbucks:-). I am so blessed to be your child's teacher.
I hope you had a great Labor Day weekend.
This week we will be wrapping up our first math unit on all levels . Test will be on Friday.
In addition, If you child has not already done so, all students will begin Iready math. This is a program that is replacing the personalized math lessons previously given by tenmarks. Having tools like this in the classroom and at home are invaluable ways to make sure all children are learning at their individual levels, while adhering to curriculum guidelines. This will be a large part of homework requirements moving forward.
We are also entering into conference window time. Please let me know if you would like to meet sooner rather than later. There will be a day that we can schedule conferences all day.
Thank you for all of your support,
We are getting into a rhythm and really beginning to delve into the curriculum. Please bear with me as we get the gradebook straightened out. I will post grades as soon as possible. Please check your home access regularly. If you need assistance on how to do so, I will gladly help.

Please check your child's Binder regularly in math and social studies. Together we can help them stay organized and ensure that they are keeping up with practice and misconceptions. If you find that your child is not understanding something, please email me and I will make sure to "check" in with them. Every little bit helps:-)
I am so lucky to be your child's teacher!
Tuesday 8/21 6pm-8pm.
I am excited to see all of you tomorrow night!
I will be needing quite a few M&M's for a lesson on Wednesday. If youa re able to send some in, I would be most grateful.
This week we will be studying steps that lead to the Revolutionary War in Social Studies. All students should have their agendas filled out with assignments they are to do at home. They can be found on Google classroom. The first one is an interactive map. Sadly, I think it is only working on computers and not tablets.
In math we are continuing our first unit in all levels. This unit is mostly review- so I am constantly assessing (anecdotally) and filling in any weak areas. Each student is really following their own path. I have been working with students individually and in small groups to ensure that they have a good foundation with which to build future knowledge.
We are always in need of outdoor balls.
Thank you for all of your support and all you do at home,
Weekly Blast 8/13-8/17
The first week of school was a whirlwind. I am so excited to be your child's teacher for fourth grade.
Last week we had a lot of fun creating marble roller coasters and thinking about what our superpowers were. I had fun watching each child ease into their new classroom.
This week we will begin diving into our math unit on place value, exploring how our number system is based on the number 10, and improving our map skills in Social Studies.
I will be reaching out to my PM parents this week via the phone.
I will be using this website to communicate weekly.
I am so excited to be your child's fourth grade teacher.
I teach Math, Science and Social Studies.
Thank you for all of you who came to Meet and greet today. I know that this will be a great year.
