Good Morning, Congratulations on a successful first two days! This may look different for everyone, but everyone reading this has achieved success!! 30-45 mins a day in math is what the average 3rd grader should be accomplishing. *** This looks different for every child. Some students fly through the lessons and need more- Some students may struggle to get through a small percentage of the work given- Some students may want to spend more time completing their lessons. These are all ok! Do NOT try and complete everything if your child is not ready. The goal for this week is to hammer out a schedule that works for your family, wrap your mind around this new reality, and establish lines of communication. Above all- stay safe and sane😊 Today, parent “homework” is to familiarize yourself with your child’s classlink. Please make sure they know how to log in, and that your home devices can open apps on classlink like iReady, brainpop, and safari montage😊 Please text, call, email, skype, or use any form of communication you can, with any questions😊 Love this group! Ana Holden 404-735-2391 Good Morning,
I hope to find you all well. Although I am thankful to spend this time with my three children, I miss my school family. I welcome texts, phone calls, and emails form all of my students (children)😊 I have heard from almost all of my parents. Today I will be attempting to reach anyone I have not heard from. Please do not feel pressured. I just want to make sure you are informed and connected😊 Please complete this short questionnaire to help me plan for next week’s lessons. Parent Feedback Today, I will be working on building this class website with resources and materials for each unit that will help assist you child with their learning and reviewing. Please take a minute to familiarize yourself with the website. It would be a huge help to click on all of the links in order to ensure they “work” and are all linked to the correct pages😊 Reminder: This first week we will be following the county provided assignments. Here is the link: https://dolvindigitallearningday.weebly.com/
Each lesson you click on from the county will say “print and complete.” I am sure we do not all have printers, and in my opinion it is a little bit of a waste to print them. Students are welcome to complete the lessons and write answers on notebook paper or really any paper. Have them keep all of their work in one folder or notebook. When we return to class, we will use these answers as grades and evidence of learning. This way we will not have students doing lots of extra work to provide us with evidence of learning. Call me (preferably text first) 4047352391, or email me with any concerns or help needed. I am here for you, Ana Holden Good Morning,
We are navigating uncharted waters. This is a learning experience for all of us, parents and teachers. Please go easy on yourselves, your children and me😊 An email went out yesterday about the county having devices available for students who need one. Please look at the “food” emails carefully, they have been amended to add devices. This first week we will be following the county provided assignments. Here is the link: https://dolvindigitallearningday.weebly.com/

I am trying to teach myself how to video conference on Microsoft Teams and Facetime. I’d love to offer some face to face “classes” for anyone able to attend. More to come!!! Just concentrate on Day one. We will tackle day 2 tomorrow. Call me (preferably text first) 4047352391, or email me with any concerns or help needed. I am here for you. Ana Holden P.S. I have 3 children also home schooling- so I know I am overwhelmed, we are in this together. I am amazed at how much reading our students did over the weekend to move us into the Elite 8 of the Read to the Final Four competition. There are now two teams remaining in each of the four regions.
Teamwork makes the dream work! We’re going to need all students reading this week to move on to win the final round for our region on Monday March 9. Tara Elementary in Clayton County is going to give us some tough competition. We would love to bring this win home for Dolvin and Fulton County because this is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Our students have already done such an amazing job competing against 90 schools in our region in the Tip Off and still hanging in there as one of the final two teams. WOW! Go to this link to see more information: https://readtothefinalfour.renaissance.com 3rd grade math: This unit is focusing on Fractions. Students are learning how to write fractions of one whole, fractions of a set and how to represent fractions on a number line. Each student has practice pages in their blue folder. These are worked on in class and should also be worked on at home. Standards: NF1, NF2, NF3 We will have a quiz on this unit on Friday and tentatively schedule the test for Wednesday of next week. 4th grade math: This unit focuses on 2-d figures. It is deceptive. Many students feel that "shapes" are "easy" and are not paying attention to the details. We have completed the unit and are now in a "review" process. Students will have a Quiz on Thursday and a test next Wednesday. Each student has a practice packet that should be completed and a good resource for studying. Social Studies. We are currently working on The middle colonies and will complete the southern colonies by the end of the week. Next week students will be completing a project and will have a quiz and test. Study material will be in their green folders by the end of the week. In addition, students have several resources in their google classrooms. Dates to Remember Exceptional Child Week 3/3 – Eat/play with a new friend 3/4- Perform a random act of kindness 3/5 – Wear your Superhero or Dolvin shirt Sign & Return go home. 3/6 – Wear your March Madness Basketball Apparel 3/8 – Read to the Final Four Elite 8 ends 3/11 – Quarter 3 ends 3/12 – Quarter 4 begins Good Morning,
Thank you for all of the love this morning. What a great way to start of teacher appreciation week! IMPORTANT! Today we have started the countdown to the final four championships! We are in an elite group of 16 schools vying for the title. This week 8 will be eliminated!!! In order to not be eliminated, we need to stay in the top 8. It is very important that we read as much as possible at home. That is where we have been making up time. Please encourage your child to read at home. Math: This week we will be taking a quiz on Wednesday and a Test on Friday in both levels. I will be reviewing and checking for understanding. I will also encourage each child to bring their blue folders home daily to practice and review. Science: Test will be Thursday: Students have a QUIZIZZ on their google classroom to help them practice. This is a fun way for them to review and study. In addition, they have many resources and information on google classroom. They also have a unit review sheet in their green folders. Next week we will start colonial America. We are #1!!!!
We finished in first place for the first round of Myon reading. To celebrate, we are kicking off the next round with a "read all day" today. I will be using this time to catch some students up on missing or incomplete work as well as re-mediating with students . SCIENCE: This week we will continue our rocks and minerals studies. We will have a quiz on Friday and most likely the test next week on Wednesday. Please check out the resources on the science page. 3rd Grade Math: We will be examining area and perimeter relationships this week. I am hoping to give a quiz this week. The test date will be determined by the end of the week, depending on how well students are grasping the material. Please check out resources on the 3rd grade math page. 4th grade math: Our next unit will be on "decimal fractions." This essentially means fractions with denominators of 10 or 100, and learning how to write these as decimals. We will be using place value charts often during this unit. I will be posting resources for this as the week progresses. I will be beginning with students on Wednesday. have a wonderful week, Ana Holden Good Afternoon Families,
We are halfway through our first month of 2020. This week we will be continuing our rocks and soil unit. I have added resources to this unit. Please click on resources above. Click on the science tab and then on "rocks and soil" 3rd grade math: we will continue our area and perimeter investigations this week, we will have a quiz on Friday. 4th grade math: we will begin our test on adding, subtracting, and multiplying fractions on Wednesday. I hope to have these graded and back to you by Friday. Our next unit will be exploring the relationship between fractions and decimals. We will work quite a bit with a place value chart and relate one place value to another in terms of 10. Thank you, Ana Holden Good Evening,
Please forgive the lapse in blog postings last week and this week. It has been a rocky start to this new year for the Holden family:-( hopefully we are getting all the craziness out of the way early and will have smooth sailing the rest of the year. Thank You!!! Thank you all so much for the amazing support and love that was lavished on me for the holidays. I feel so lucky to be your child's teacher. We are currently studying rocks in science and will soon have little pet rocks that we will be able to identify and write about. 3rd grade math: We have just begun our new unit this week on area. The students have workbook pages in their blue folders that can help them practice these concepts . 4th grade math: Students will be taking a quiz tomorrow on unit 4 and hopefully we will be testing on unit 4 next week. Thank you, Please let me know if there is ever anything I can do to help your child be more successful, Ana Holden Last week before holiday break!
Class Party: (Homeroom Only) Friday 12/20 11:15-12:00 -The only parents that may attend are the volunteers who contact Mrs. Tebbe. Please make sure you have completed the background check in order to volunteer. -Please send in supplies outlined in letter distributed by Mrs. Tebbe. 3rd Grade Math Tues: Quiz Thursday: test We have been working hard on solving two step word problems. We have been using manipulatives and slowly dissecting word problems in class as well as learning how to create expressions and equations that match what the word problem is asking. -Interesting fact- I have observed (as have the students) that their models are almost always 100% correct while their equations and computations are almost always wrong. This means: The students know what they are doing, when they actually "do" the problems, but are having a hard time writing in math terms. The interesting part is that I almost always only see "numbers" on tests with very little evidence of models or strategies needed to find solutions. 4th Grade math: Mon/Wed: quiz Friday: Test Students were given a "review" today. I will grade it tonight- If students did very well, I am counting it as their quiz grade, if they need clarification or reteaching, I will give them a separate quiz on Wednesday- all "reviews" will be handed back tomorrow. Students will the begin their unit test on Thursday and hopefully finish Thursday or Friday. Please let me know if I can help in any way. Social Studies: Students have been working on their explorer project in their ELA classes for weeks. They will finish their project this week. This will count as a test grade in Social Studies as well. We will also have a super short (test) on Friday- this one I am very confident all students will do very well in. I will post the quizlet tonight to help practice for it. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE make sure your child is reading the books on Myon assigned in the "Project" These will count as their classwork grade. Almost all students have this completed, But there are several that do not. Supplies needed: -Gently used outdoor balls -Clorox wipes -Whiteboard markers Thank you for all of your support, Ana Holden I hope you all had a wonderful break!
The next three weeks will go by in a flash. I will be updating you in this email about what we will be doing in math on each level and what we will be learning about in social studies. I will then be updating the respective math pages and social studies pages on this website with reference websites and helpful links. Social Studies: We will be studying the early European explorers. Our focus is on understanding that these explorers were initially trying to find a water route to Asia. Today we had an introductory lesson with the game "Marco Polo." Prioritized standard: SS3H2 Describe European exploration in North America. -Describe the reasons for and obstacles to the exploration of North America. Simplified explanation (written by me) The reasons for exploration (initially) reach Asia for silk and spices. The obstacles: North and South America. (Noone knew those continents existed.) 3rd Grade Math: Unit 3: (OA.8)two step word problems and (OA.9) multiplication patterns and strategies. The good news about this unit is that I have already taught this! woohoo- not sure how I was supposed to teach multiplication without teaching strategies and patterns:-)...live and learn, next year I will know to order things better. Having said that, I will give all of the kids a "pre-test" on this unit on Friday- from that point I will assess what areas may need more enforcement, if any. If your child does really well, I will move them on to Unit 4 (which has also already been taught- arrays in multiplication.) The goal is to have your child finish the year successfully while increasing multiplication and division fluency. 4th grade math: Unit 3 and 4 Unit 3 is all about equivalent fractions. Students in this unit are only required to know how to create and identify equivalent fractions. Strangely, they will not use them until 5th grade (go figure) Then unit 4 is adding, subtracting, and multiplying fractions. Students will be adding and subtracting fractions with like denominators and multiplying fractions with whole numbers. Today, during my introductory lesson, I realized students knew a lot more than I anticipated- so I will let the students move at their own pace- please feel free to work with them at home as much or as little as you feel comfortable. These two units blend into one another and can be assessed at any time when your child is ready. My goal is to have everyone take unit 3 test before the holidays. If your child makes it through unit 4, we will just begin with unit 5 in January. |
